Social Media Policy
As a licensed mental health professional, I maintain a strong commitment to protecting your confidentiality, privacy, and the therapeutic relationship. This Social Media Policy outlines how I conduct myself on public platforms and how I manage interactions with clients and the general public on social media.
1. No Therapy or Clinical Services via Social Media
Social media is not a secure or appropriate medium for therapy, counseling, or clinical communication.
I do not provide therapy, clinical advice, or crisis support through social media channels.
If you need to speak with me, please contact me directly via secure email or phone.
In an emergency, please call 911 or a local crisis line.
2. No Client Interactions on Social Media
To protect your privacy and maintain professional boundaries, I do not engage with clients on social media. This includes:
Not accepting friend or follow requests from current or former clients on personal or professional social media accounts.
Not responding to comments, DMs, or tags from clients on any platform.
Not discussing or acknowledging the therapeutic relationship in any public online space.
This policy is in place to avoid dual relationships, confidentiality breaches, and boundary issues.
3. Content I Share
On professional social media accounts (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn), I may post content that is intended to be educational, inspirational, or informative, such as:
General mental health tips
Resources or self-care strategies
Updates about my practice (e.g., hours, availability)
This content is for general educational purposes only and is not a substitute for therapy or medical advice.
4. Following and Engagement
I do not follow clients on social media, even if you follow me. This is to:
Protect your confidentiality.
Avoid creating a perception of favoritism or dual relationships.
Maintain the integrity of the therapeutic space.
You are welcome to view public content, but please be aware that any engagement (likes, shares, comments) may be visible to others and could compromise your privacy.
5. Online Reviews and Testimonials
I do not solicit or accept client reviews or testimonials, in accordance with ethical guidelines set by professional licensing boards.
If you see my practice listed on a directory or review site (e.g., Google, Psychology Today, Yelp), know that I have not requested or endorsed any public comments left there.
6. Confidentiality and Public Comment
You are free to interact with public social media content, but please be cautious:
Avoid disclosing any personal or clinical information in comments or messages.
I cannot guarantee confidentiality for any communication on social platforms.
If you have a clinical or administrative question, please contact me directly via secure means.
7. Policy Updates
This policy may be updated periodically to reflect changes in technology, ethics guidelines, or clinical best practices. Updated versions will be posted to our website or made available by request.
